Who are we
The Chronic Granulomatous Disorder (CGD) Society is the leading global charity dedicated to providing information and support to all those affected by CGD. The charity funds a clinical nurse specialist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and responds to enquires from all over the world.
The CGD Society is based in the UK and was originally registered as a charity in 1991 under the name The Chronic Granulomatous Disorder Research Trust. Over the years, the charity has transformed from a small parent support group into a leading global source of information on chronic granulomatous disorder.
What is CGD
CGD stands for Chronic Granulomatous Disorder. It is a life-threatening and life-limiting condition.
It used to be known as Chronic Granulomatous Disease and doctors sometimes still use this name.
People with CGD can’t fight bacterial or fungal infections effectively.
It is a genetic condition so is passed from our parents. It can also occur due to a random mutation in your DNA.
