We need you to be a fundraising hero for us!

Whether running, jogging, or walking, you can make us and our members - who live with disabilities and long term-health conditions - proud; all by taking part and raising money (or sponsoring a team member and donating to us) within this year's 5k Big Fun Run in Victoria Park on Sunday 20 October 2019!

If you need just one reason to take part, take a look at Albie's story just below the 'Who We Are' section.

Donating To Our Fun Run Team

Of course, if you already know about us and our story, then you can always head to our Virgin Money Giving Donations page, to:

Thank you and your donation makes such a difference to us.

Who We Are

We're Ability Bow!

We're passionate about the people who use, support and work within our gym; inner London's only disabilities and long-term health conditions-focused rehabilitation service.

Founded in 2006 by director Victoria Kent, we provide (within our Bow-based gym in east London):

We focus on strengthening a person's ability and keeping them fitter, healthier and stronger, for longer.

Incurable Cancer Doesn't Stop Our Albie Taking Part

Meet Albie. In 2013 he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer and in a wheelchair. Today, he's walking again!

Albie's diagnosis is incurable. He developed a terminal tumour in his back which fractured his spinal cord in two places.

Albie's Remarkable Recovery

This left the former professional dancer and choreographer in hospital for seven and a half months. Since being released and joining our Ability Bow gym, he's been making an incredible recovery while living with cancer.

He is now partially paralysed and has weaknesses to his lower limbs.

Albie now has ongoing chemotheraphy treatment once a month at various hospitals; but none of his diagnosis is stopping him from giving back to us and taking part taking part in this year's Big Fun Run in 2019 (after previous efforts in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018).

You can be like Albie. You can help him and others to keep all of our gym members fitter and stronger, for longer, just by taking part in this year's Big Fun Run!

Our 2019 Team

We're continuing to build our fantastic Fun Run team for 2019 and so far in addition to Albie, we've got various members and supporters of our gym taking part!

Ranging from Ability Bow's director Victoria, to our marketing and communications coordinator, Stuart, we'll also welcome friends and supporters from our gym; we're really hoping to have a strong crowd on the day to cheer on our team!

We have 10 FREE Fun Runner places on the day left, so if you would like to sign up:

Where We'll Be On The Day

If you'd like to participate/come down and meet us on the day in Victoria Park, London from 10.30am (all participants need to be there about 30 minutes before the race start at 11am).

We'll be based at the start near the 'old athletics track' between Lock House Gate and St Mark's Gate (you'll see and hear the event, so just look for the red inflatable arches and our Ability Bow banners!).

Why Else You Should Take Part

Everyone is welcome to take part!

Whether a gym member, one of our partners, a keen event fundraiser (you may have already taken part in previous Big Fun Runs for example, or are now thinking about it), or a potential new supporter of us keen to get more involved, what the fun run offers most, is fun!

The Fun Run gives you:

  • Fun, relaxed and inclusive exercise (you can even push a pram around the course or bring your toddler if you like)
  • No time pressures
  • Social exercise by running together
  • A chance to don some fancy dress (we'd love to see some Halloween costumes in the mix!)

How Much You Could Raise For Us

We'd love you to be able to run (or walk, jog, crawl - you get the idea) and raise for us as an individual within our Ability Bow team, around £100 each as a minimum.

We'll then aim to combine this towards a target of raising £1,000 in maintaining our service this year.

How Your Donations Impact Our Members

Most importantly, the 5k Big Fun Run gives you the chance to raise vital funds for our gym (which works with people living with disabilities and long-term health conditions) and its magnficent members.

The impact is invaluable!

Without your support in sponsoring our Ability Bow Big Fun Run team, our members like Christine and Ken - who live with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia - would find it challenging to live as positively as they do with their diagnosis.

Your help also ensures our gym members like Nathan - who lives with an acquired brain inury - manage their remarkable recoveries from in his case, a wheelchair to walking again.

Nathan even says he wouldn't even be here without you, your fundraising andthe help and support from our specialist exercise instructor team!

Any donation to our fabulous fun runners is welcome in helping us to reach more people in more communities with disabilities.

Why Your Donations (Also) Matter

You can also be part of rebuilding our one-to-one service - which has previously helped our members like Albie and Nathan, access affordable exercise when they've really needed it.

Funds generated from the Big Fun Run will be invested in the new one-to-one service which would:

  • Help people with more complex needs including brain injuries or cancers
  • Provide sustained exercise and rehabilitation sessions from one instructover for more than our current 12 week initial programme
  • Cover the cost of providing each one-to-one session for £60 (given each of our members at our charity gym pays just £4.50 for a gym session)

Still Unsure?
