Big Fun Run is a series of 5k untimed runs staged within scenic settings throughout the UK from August to September. Run for fitness, run for charity, run for fun…just run!
There’s no pressure, just some easy moves and lots of laughs. It’s all about getting involved, having fun and enjoying the whole experience of the day.
When you arrive, make your way to the start and finish area – look out for the Big Fun Run pyramid and you’ll know you’ve reached the right place. Dress code is fun so wear whatever you like – fancy dress is always welcome however a comfortable pair of trainers is a must! Our friendly event team will be there to welcome you and play some great tunes to get you in the mood for some fun. Make sure that you arrive 15 minutes before the start to take part in the Big Fun Warm up. The event is not timed so don’t worry about rushing round.
There will be signage and marshals along the route to cheer you on and make sure no-one goes the wrong way. Once you come through the finish line you will be greeted by our friendly MC and finish team who will give you a bottle of water, an event goody bag and your well deserved Big Fun Run medal. Remember your camera or phone and why not make your way to the Big Fun Run pyramid where you can take your picture along with anyone you’ve come with.
The run starts and finishes on the grass area to the north west of Heaton Hall. After starting on a short stretch of grass, the course is run on tarmac until it returns to this section at the finish. As the runners approch the tarmac, the route turns right and heads south past Heaton Hall and on towards the lake. The route continues round the lake and then heads north east past the golf course and then swings back past the front of Heaton Hall where it turns north and back to the finish area.
Car parking is available with charge at St Margaret’s Road, Sheepfoot Lane or Smithy Lodge entrances. Pedestrian access is available via all entrances. Runners are encouraged to consider public transport or car sharing. Heaton Park is the biggest park in Manchester and the largest municipal park in Europe. It has a Grade I listed, 18th-century country house called Heaton Hall, 18-hole golf course with driving range, a boating lake, an animal farm, woodlands, ornamental gardens, an observatory, two playgrounds, a Papal monument and a volunteer-run tram system, restaurant and lakeside tea room combine to make Heaton one of the most popular family days out in the North West. The course starts and finishes on an open flat area of grass and from then onwards, the route remains on path throughout, until reaching the finish area. Apart from approximately 50m of grass at the start / finish, the Big Fun Run Manchester route is suitable for wheelchair users.
